I wrote about using frequently done activities as a reward for
writing (see Feb. 4.) The problem is: If you are giving yourself a
reward for having written (e.g. you get to check your email for 10
minutes if you write for 20) -- how do you get yourself back to work?
That seems to be the biggest problem for those who procrastinate and
avoid.
One simple solution is to have a watch that you can set for 10 minutes and it beeps. They can be bought cheaply at Target, for example. Or just set your cell phone to ring, or vibrate if you're in the library, in 10 minutes. The external cue works better than just counting on yourself to keep track of the time.
